Hooked on Phonics

The five-year old students were learning to read. Yesterday one of them pointed at a picture in a zoo book and said, "Look at this! It's a frickin' elephant!"

The teacher took a deep breath, then asked, "What did you call it?''

"It's a frickin' elephant! It says so on the picture!"

And so it does...

What's so funny about onions?

Recently, Miss A had to help me prepare broccoli salad for the Girl Scout cookout honoring dads later that evening. (She is so much like me in so many ways and lacks in the cooking department as I do. Miss M on the otherhand loves to help in the kitchen.) I was showing her how to cut the red onion and lit a candle to help with the fumes. (Try it; it really does work!) She went and got her recorder to play sad music befitting the occasion.

Then, I when I cut it in half, she wanted to count the rings to see how old it was. After that, I was explaining that I first cut across the half one way, then the other, perpendicular to the first. "Oh, like latitude and longitude!" she stated. Didn't I tell you this girl was smart?

PARTY!

Miss A's 10th birthday party was too much fun!!! She says this was the best ever, and though she says that every year, I tend to agree. What could be better than food, friends, and fun on the lake?
Even though the thunder and rain sent us back into the playhouse, they had fun coloring their beach balls until the sun came back out.
Too bad I didn't get any pictures of Daddy riding her brand new bike down the hill! Our summer project will be to learn to ride it. Won't Uncle Brian be proud?

Happy Birthday, Dear Daughter!

Happy birthday, dear daughter! It is so hard for me to believe that you are TEN today. My how these past ten years have flown by! Holding you, a not-so-tiny miracle, was the most amazing experience of my life. Getting to watch you grow up into such a sweet young lady makes everything worthwhile. Daddy, your sister, and I love you so very, very much!
